Latin Name: Malus baccata

Other Names: Siberian Crab, Manchurian crab apple, Chinese crab apple

Mature Height: 25 ft

Soil / Climate: location: sun. soil: permeable soils ph value:  acid - alkaline.

Usage: Garden tree, park tree

Notes: The leaves are ovate to oblong, dark green, firm and the leaf margin is serrate. The leaf arrangement is alternate. Flowering: April - May, White flower. 

Fruit is red, 3/8 inch in diameter, bears annually, and is persistent through winter

The bark is brown and cracked, heart-rooting - shallow-rooting

Wildlife: The fruit is a favorite food of the ruffed grouse, pheasant and woodpecker. Countless other birds rely upon the fruit, seed, buds, nectar, and flowers for food. 

Deer are drawn to crabapple trees for the fruit and to browse any new growth.

Fast growing

Provides habitat for deer, ruffed grouse, pheasant, turkey and bees.
